Testing your link

On a desktop the link opens the Telegram web or desktop app. On a phone it opens the Telegram app directly. If the phone number link shows no chat, that account does not allow being found by number, so use a username link instead.

What is a t.me link?

t.me is Telegram’s official short domain. A t.me link opens a chat, group, channel or bot directly: on phones it opens the Telegram app, and on desktops it opens Telegram Web or the desktop app.

Does the link work for groups, channels and bots?

Yes. Any public username works: a personal account, a bot, a public group or a channel. Type the username and the same t.me link format opens the right chat. Private groups need an invite link created inside the Telegram app.

Why does my phone number link not open a chat?

Telegram only resolves a phone number link if that account allows being found by its number, in Settings, Privacy and Security, Phone Number. If it is restricted, the link shows nothing. A username link always works, so prefer it when you have one.

What is the difference between the shareable link and the app link?

The shareable link (t.me) works everywhere: browsers, social bios, ads and messages. The app link (tg://resolve) skips the browser and opens the Telegram app directly, which is useful for buttons inside mobile apps. For anything public, use the shareable link.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The link and the QR code are created entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server, saved or logged.
